Why would you choose one method over the other?

The usual answers are religious based.  Most women feel that natural insemination is "cheating" on their partner, and it is hard to deal with the mental anguish associated with not having been successful.  Thus a clinical artificial insemination might seem less "adulterous."

Typically, and artificial insemination requires some input from the medical community (freezing and thawing techniques, timing, etc.)  This obviously ads to the expense.

In the "natural" method, what is happening is pretty clear--but the mental anguish that an infertile father would have knowing that this method is used is often pretty tough to handle.

What I'd like to hear in this forum, is why someone would choose one way over the other.  Be those views religious, practical, mental, etc.

So what is your reason for choosing natural or artificial insemenation.

I think in California, you have to have artificial insemination to avoid legal complications with Child Support issues.  If a mother claims that she had sex to conceive the child, the father will have to pay Child Support regardless of the intent of any contract.
So in California, I'd think most donor fathers would prefer artificial insemenation, as opposed to natural.

I'd go for natural though--because it just seems less clinical.  Something just seems COLD about having a baby without at least meeting the father.  Does that make sense?

Maybe that is my early upbringing . . . religion . . . or moral conscience.

I think for many married couples and lesbians artificial insemination is the only way their partner would agree to using a donor.

Sally, you are probably right (that a lesbian couple would prefer AI) but is that for religious reasons too?

I think artifial is the best way because it's more of a business interaction and not likely for some hidden motives to be involved on the part of the donor.

I have donated naturally and it was done in such a way that made the husband not feel like his wife was cheating.  Yes, I entered the woman, but I never saw any part of her unclothed, and nothing additional was done other than what was required to get the end result
